Ashlyn Harris<\/strong>\u00a0is opening up about her split from ex-wife\u00a0Ali Krieger<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The former U.S. women\u2019s national soccer team star reflected on the end of their marriage in a new interview with promoting her documentary Gamechangers: The Ashlyn Harris Story<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI don\u2019t resent or regret anything about the life that I built with her; it just wasn\u2019t for me,\u201d\u00a0Ashlyn<\/strong>, 40, exclusively told\u00a0Us Weekly<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Ashlyn <\/strong>filed for divorce from Ali <\/strong>in September 2023 after nearly four years of marriage. The former couple, who were teammates on the U.S. women\u2019s national soccer team, share two children together: daughter Sloane<\/strong>, 5, and son Ocean<\/strong>, 3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou try and you try and you try and you keep trying to make it work and you don\u2019t want to fail,\u201d Ashlyn<\/strong> recalled. \u201cYou don\u2019t want to give up. But also, life is really short and really long at the same time. I get one shot at this. There\u2019s no second act. If I\u2019m feeling this way in my 30s and I\u2019m so unhappy that I don\u2019t want to get out of bed, am I really serving her and my children and my friends and myself?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She continued, \u201cI had to make a really hard decision. I know I hurt her in that process.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Following the divorce, Ashlyn <\/strong>said she was finally able to focus on discovering who she is outside of the life she had built.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m the happiest I\u2019ve ever been,\u201d said\u00a0Ashlyn<\/strong>, who began dating actress\u00a0Sophia Bush<\/strong>\u00a0in October 2023. \u201cI love myself. I don\u2019t remember the last time I woke up being like, \u2018I love the person I\u2019m looking at in the mirror.\u2019 I [used to] have to remind myself every day, \u2018You\u2019re enough. It\u2019s going to be OK. Just gotta put one foot in front of the other.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She added, \u201cLife is too short to feel the burden and weight of a life you don\u2019t want to be in and you don\u2019t want to live. It f\u2013king sucks, and you have to make the hard decisions sometimes, but on the other side of that bravery is a life maybe you\u2019ve always imagined. I\u2019m privileged enough now to live that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ashlyn <\/strong>opens up about many aspects of her life in Gamechangers: The Ashlyn Harris Story<\/em>, including family struggles, her soccer career, her upbringing, and her relationship with Sophia<\/strong>. The documentary premieres June 8 on The Roku Channel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
