{"id":410081,"date":"2026-06-05T09:42:22","date_gmt":"2026-06-05T09:42:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/6gnx6dd.cc\/?p=410081"},"modified":"2026-06-05T09:42:22","modified_gmt":"2026-06-05T09:42:22","slug":"uk-food-drink-businesses-plan-to-raise-prices-cut-jobs-fdf-survey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/6gnx6dd.cc\/index.php\/2026\/06\/05\/uk-food-drink-businesses-plan-to-raise-prices-cut-jobs-fdf-survey\/","title":{"rendered":"UK food, drink businesses plan to raise prices, cut jobs \u2013 FDF survey"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The findings came as the trade body reiterated a forecast it made in April that food and non-alcoholic drink inflation in the UK will reach 9-10% by December.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"940\" height=\"528\" src=\"https:\/\/6gnx6dd.cc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/image-229.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-410082\" srcset=\"https:\/\/6gnx6dd.cc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/image-229.png 940w, https:\/\/6gnx6dd.cc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/image-229-300x169.png 300w, https:\/\/6gnx6dd.cc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/image-229-768x431.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 940px) 100vw, 940px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More than four in five UK food and drink manufacturers expect to raise prices and a third are planning job cuts, according to a new Food and Drink Federation survey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Publishing survey findings for the first quarter, the FDF said 82% of businesses expect to raise prices to manage rising costs, while 33% said they plan to restructure or reduce their workforce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The findings are based on responses from UK food and drink manufacturers of different sizes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the survey, the latest pressure on manufacturers stems from the Iran conflict and the resulting energy shock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The findings came as the trade body\u00a0reiterated a forecast it made in April\u00a0that food and non-alcoholic drink inflation in the UK will reach 9-10% by December.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">See Also:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Onus turns on UK government to shield food industry from energy-price shock\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>GCC trade deal an \u201cexciting opportunity\u201d for UK food and drinks industry, FDF chief says\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Citing the International Energy Agency, the FDF said war in Iran \u201cunleashed the worst energy crisis in history, worse than the previous crises of 1973, 1979 and 2022 combined\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHigher inflation is unavoidable,\u201d the FDF said, adding that, for the industry, the current crisis is \u201cabout higher costs, not shortages\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Other steps companies said they are taking to manage the impact include changing procurement strategies, cutting marketing expenditure and pausing or cancelling capital investment projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Only 21% said they plan to make production more energy efficient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Business sentiment also weakened sharply. \u201cThe industry confidence is in freefall, reaching levels comparable to those seen in the pandemic,\u201d the FDF said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The FDF\u2019s net confidence score fell to -64% in Q1 from -31% in Q4 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some 67% of businesses said conditions deteriorated from the previous quarter, while the outlook confidence reading for Q2 was -51%, the weakest since records began in early 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The report said 69% of respondents believe UK government support on energy costs would be the most effective measure to ease pressure on the industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For 51% of surveyed businesses, energy accounts for between 5% and 9% of their cost base, while for 8% it represents 20%-24%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The report also found labour costs are continuing to reshape operations.
