The Scottish city will host the men’s events and the junior finals, while the Swedish venue will hold the women’s event in November, with the top teams advancing to compete for the world title in Canada later on.

World Curling’s recent announcement highlights the confidence placed in both venues due to their long-standing tradition and significant contribution to the sport. Curl Aberdeen has been a partner of the governing body in organising international events for a long time, and most recently hosted the 2025 Pre-Olympic Qualification Event. The will be the second time that the venue has hosted the World Junior Curling Championships, having previously held the event in 2018.

Meanwhile, Östersund has welcomed numerous World Curling competitions over the years, most recently the former European C-Division Championships in 2025.

The Men’s World Championship Qualifier in the Scottish city will be the first event, taking place from 8 to 13 November 2026. Just over a week later, attention will turn to Sweden, where the Women’s World Championship Qualifier is scheduled to take place from 21 to 26 November.

“I am delighted that both venues will host the first World Championship Qualifiers under the new competition structure. I am confident that they will help us deliver excellent events for our athletes, who will be striving to qualify for the World Championships,” said Eeva Röthlisberger, World Curling’s head of Competitions.

The new structure was introduced because the governing body believed that the previous system made it difficult for emerging nations to qualify for the World Championships, placing too much emphasis on continental competitions. The aim was to create a clearer, more global qualification pathway that offered greater opportunities to all member associations. Previously featuring only 13 teams, the World Championships have now expanded to 18. According to World Curling, the changes will result in a fairer and more inclusive system that offers increased opportunities for nations looking to develop their curling programmes.
Tom Brewster, manager of Curl Aberdeen, described it as “exciting to be part of the first World Championship Qualifier following the restructuring of the competition system’.

Jackie Lockhart, Curl Aberdeen’s chairperson, also welcomed the junior curling community — the future of the sport — to the club, where they will compete for a world title. The World Junior Curling Championships will take place from 6 to 14 February 2027.

The mood in the Swedish city is equally enthusiastic. Per Bergman, president of the Östersund Local Organising Committee, has promised to do “everything possible to provide everyone with an unforgettable experience'”

Meanwhile, the men’s World Championship is set to take place in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada, from 27 March to 4 April 2027 and the Women’s World Championship has already confirmed its dates from 13 to 21 March 2027, however the host venue is yet to be announced.
