{"id":418740,"date":"2026-06-30T11:17:19","date_gmt":"2026-06-30T11:17:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/6gnx6dd.cc\/?p=418740"},"modified":"2026-06-30T11:17:19","modified_gmt":"2026-06-30T11:17:19","slug":"johnson-to-miss-first-open-since-2009-as-major-streak-ends","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/6gnx6dd.cc\/index.php\/2026\/06\/30\/johnson-to-miss-first-open-since-2009-as-major-streak-ends\/","title":{"rendered":"Johnson to miss first Open since 2009 as major streak ends"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Two-time major winner Dustin Johnson will miss his first Open Championship since his debut in 2009 after withdrawing from final qualifying.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 42-year-old, who has managed just one top-20 finish in his past 15 majors, has never won the Open, with his best result a tie for second in 2011.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As he did not qualify automatically, the American had entered final qualifying at Dundonald Links, one of four venues offering five places each for next month&#8217;s championship at Royal Birkdale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, the 2016 US Open and 2020 Masters champion has been removed from the entry list, with no reason given for his withdrawal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It means the former world number one will miss a major for the first time since the 2017 Masters, ending a streak of 38 consecutive major starts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Johnson, who plays on the breakaway LIV Golf tour, made the cut in all three of his major starts this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This year&#8217;s Open Championship begins on 16 July.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two-time major winner Dustin Johnson will miss his first Open Championship since his debut in 2009 after withdrawing from final qualifying.
