Arsenal’s defender Jurrien Timber ruled out of World Cup for Netherlands

Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber has been ruled out of the World Cup for Netherlands.

The defender, who featured as a substitute in the Champions League final last month, had previously missed the final few weeks of the Premier  League season with a groin injury.

A Netherlands statement read: “The 24-year-old defender has not recovered sufficiently from a groin injury to take part in the World Cup in a medically responsible manner.

“In consultation with the medical staff, it has therefore been decided that Timber will leave the national team’s pre-camp in New York after the game against Uzbekistan. We’re with you, Jurrien.”

Timber was absent for more than two months after picking up an injury in mid March in a Premier League clash with Everton.

He missed their final seven league games as Arsenal clinched the title, returning as a substitute in the second half of their Champions League final defeat to PSG.
