High jumper Grospe sets new PH record in Tarlac trackfest

MANILA – Leonard Grospe on Saturday broke the national record in men’s high jump at the ICTSI Philippine Open at New Clark City Athletics Stadium in Capas, Tarlac.

The 2025 Southeast Asian Games (SEAG) bronze medalist registered a personal best 2.23 meters to improve the 2.22m he set during the NCAA Season 101 competition held at the same venue on May 5.

“I’m very happy to break the record because it was the standard in the last Asian Jumps,” he said, referring to the winning jump of 2.23m by Qatari Mutaz Aissa Barsham last month in Chongqing, China.

Meanwhile, Paris Olympian Lauren Hoffman clocked 13.55 seconds to rule the women’s 100m hurdles event over reigning SEAG champion Dina Aulia (13.63) and Army’s Jelly Diane Paragile (14.16).

Two-time SEAG men’s 110m hurdles gold medalist Clinton Kingsley Bautisa retained the title in 14.26 seconds, prevailing over teammate Tochukwu Okolo (14.43) and Papua New Guinea’s Robert Oa (14.51).

In the men’s 400m hurdles, Fil-Am Gabe Borado won in 47.05 seconds.

Mico del Prado (47.29) and Francis Patanpatan (47.79) took the silver and bronze, respectively.

Fil-Am Amanda Javellana dominated the women’s hammer throw with a 51.12m heave.
